Phil in PV's January Fishing Report
from
Puerto Vallarta
2002

The arrival of the New Year often coincides with the departure of the huge trophy fish in Puerto Vallarta, but fishermen, don't despair.  As a World Class destination, Puerto Vallarta always promises alternatives to the seasonal 400-pound Yellow fin Tuna and 600-pound Black Marlin that are landed between July and December.  When the ocean cools, the Pacific Sailfish become more abundant and this species makes for a spectacular fight and a formidable mount.

The inshore fishing is better than ever and more and more anglers are choosing to stay close to shore and try for the Roosterfish, one of the most sought after game species available.  Phil's first charter of 2002 was with the Dennis family from Oregon.  Check out Cooper's Catch.

This month's fishing report is brief.  Phil's camera is still not repaired and the fact is, he did not get out as often as usual because he was renovating a condo that he now has for rent.  Imagine, you can be Phil's neighbor for a week or two.  Those of you who have fished with Phil in PV in the past can imagine what this experience might be like.

"Oh, hi again Phil".  "More fishing photos, I think we saw those yesterday".  "This is another box?".  "Well sure, we have lots of time but….."  "What, you need help to carry the box upstairs?"   "Hey Phil, we are on our way to the airport and I think that you already showed us the albums of 8X10's".  "Not these ones?"  "No Phil, you don't have to ride to the airport with us, we can see them next time….. really".

Yeah, Phil likes to talk and he probably has more fish photos than the National Geographic photo archive.  But he does have a beautiful condo for rent and he can be locked up temporarily if necessary.

Phil in PV, an honest fisherman who NEVER tells Fish stories, and has the photos to prove it!

Phil does not intend for this to be anything but a fun site for his old buddies and the anglers who visited.  We have added a few new subjects, the Fishing Tips, Free Fishing and the Recipe of the Month and the condo thing is not a hard sales pitch, just something that is happening and we would love to rent the darned thing.  If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make our monthly reports better, we would sure appreciate some feed-back.  And, if you would prefer to never again hear from Phil in PV then please click here and tell him and you will be banished from his little black book of buddies.  (Yeah, break his heart!)

The Humpback Whales are here in great numbers.  You will certainly see them on a fishing charter or you can go on a specialized tour aboard the PRINCE OF WHALES, a zodiac that has all of the scientific equipment.  These tours are hosted by a Biologist who specializes in the Humpbacks.  Check out the Whale Watching and Eco tours for some great photos and more information.
