Keith Dennis and his sons, Griffin, Brandon and Cooper took the LADYBUG with Captain Daniel to Los Carreyeros in an attempt to hook a few Roosterfish. The seas were rough and because inshore fishing is often done almost in the surf, these are the worst conditions for seasickness. The two older boys were feeling slightly worse for wear but 11-year-old Cooper turned out to be a natural and is definitely the fisherman of the month, maybe even the year.

Phil loves fishing with kids, turning them onto the sport (and probably insuring his future charters). With a bit of instruction and Phil's small pole, Cooper was fighting and bringing in the Roosters from start to finish alone. According to Phil, this kid, for his first attempt at the sport had gut instincts and he expects to see him in the WBS, the World Bill fishing Championship in 2010.

A surprising highlight of the day was an encounter with a Sea Turtle. These beautiful yet skittish creatures are often spotted, but normally take off underwater immediately. On this day, Captain Daniel came alongside the turtle and it remained calm. Phil actually picked her up gently for a photo. What a fantastic way to begin the year 2002!

Captain Daniel with Griffin, Brandon, Cooper and Phil in PV. This was a first for Phil, he looks more surprised than the Sea Turtle and still thinks that she was someone's pet in Southern California who got too big for the fish tank. We congratulate Jody Dennis on the incredibly attractive men in her family.
