The Captain's Reports

Phil wants to thank the Captains, Mates and owners that took the time to fill him in on the action that happened during the month of January.  Keep it coming guys!

The STRIKE ONE had a busy month as always and last year's charter, Travis Coleman from Missouri returned again this year with his radio program winners.  Travis is a professional fishing guide who does a weekly radio program about fishing and he really wanted the best for his charter so he chose once again, Hector and the STRIKE ONE.  Despite the time of year they brought in 2 Sailfish, 2 Dorado and a very big Roosterfish that they released.

This is a great photo of the MAGNIFICO, a one of a kind in Marina Vallarta.  She is a vintage Bertram that has been impeccably restored in every detail.  It is almost worth the charter just to check out the teak decks and other special features that this old girl has to offer.  Captain Pepino had success in the last week of January and reported that the Sailfish had showed up and there were some nice Dorado as well.

Captain Miguel Hoya Alvarez, owner of the SOL also called to tell us of the change in the fishing.  He was having good luck with the Sailfish at the end of January and was pleased to report that the school Dorado were abundant as well.  Lots of this action took place to the south for the first time in awhile.  Cabo Corrientes has been pretty slow for months now but seems to be a hot destination as we enter February.  This is the first photo of this very popular captain who many of you have fished with over the years that we shot without sunglasses and not serious faced.  Why?  Good old Miguel took the time to take Phil, Debbie and their daughter and son-in-law to Yelapa to spend New Year's Eve.  Thanks again Miguel, we know that we can always count on you.  Check out the SOL website.  And thanks to Petr Myska for this photo.  If you want to see a very cool and interesting site about Mexico and her wildlife, check out Viva Natura.

The big surprise, reported by all was a Striped Marlin that was caught, not a regular occurrence in late  January but a good omen of the busy months to come.  This great turn of events is very good news for the fishing community, the tourists are here and lots of them want to fish and they all want to 'Catch' as well.  Thanks to Internet reservations, many boats in Marina Vallarta and Los Peines are nicely booked for February and the Captains and crew are always anxious to provide satisfying charters for our visitors.

We found these fabulous photos of our game species in the wild.  For lack of lots of new photos of big dead fish, Phil thought you may enjoy these beauties au natural.  Pictured are Wahoo, Dorado and a Sailfish.
